Scale on Hexes on B&W Map?

Postby Chorpa on Thu May 21, 2009 11:25 am

Have been checking out your new Black and White maps and like them a lot, perfect locations that you can design a small adventure around, and it is already in scale for use with miniatures. So I decided to design a short adventure on the free Medusa Hideout map as a test but noticed an interesting thing that the Hexes seem to be smaller around 3 feet across instead of the 5 feet squares.
Is this so or are my eyes deceiving me?

Hey Chorpa,

You're correct. One hex measures 2/3 of a square. While squares are the standard 5ft squares used in most square-based roleplayings (like D&D), the hexes are meant to be used with hex-based roleplayings (such as Rolemasters or GURPS) for which the standard measure is (roughly) 3.33ft.

BTW I would love to see your designed adventure, If you like, feel free to post it on our forums.

Sure as soon as I managed to complete my notes I will go through them and try to gather them in one place and make them understandable to others. So far I have only made a small map on the region around the Hideout and working on creating the NPCs for the location. After that I will write a basic story to help bring my players into the adventure and expand a little with details on the room descriptions. Well I will prolly make a simple webpage and post my stuff there, but I will happily post the link here so people can check it out when it's done.

Well are so fond of the maps actually I have been thinking about connecting them as small Adventure Path (similar in appearance to the Adventure Paths made for D&D but on a smaller scale). Have already scribbled some notes on how to connect them with Lair of the Black Cult and/or Bandit's Trail from there on to The White Wyvern Inn. Haven't been able to study the new Dungeon of Terror maps, but I do already have several ideas gnawing in my head for those. But a bit hesitant since I do prefer smaller sized dungeons. Don't like to overdo it on the dungeon crawling and use huge sized dungeons. But I have fond memories of the famous Ruins of Undermountain for the Forgotten Realms in AD&D 2nd Ed and a first look on Dungeons of Terror actually brings me back to those.

Actually, were my fond memories of the Dungeon of Undermountan that led me to publish large dungeons ;)
